This summer a Garden of Delights awaits as we gather to support dynamic arts programming, community initiatives, and exhibitions of the historic Newport Art Museum. Our Summer Art Party will celebrate our Museum’s exceptional history and officially open our summer exhibitions “Bob Dilworth: Backyard” and Ana Flores: “Shaman Ladders and Other Stories.” 

Featuring large, lush, wild landscapes and portraits spilling with florals, “Backyard” draws on the memories and experiences from the artist’s life, exploring issues of identity, community, and race. Flores’ large-scale sculptures derive from her finding peace upon entering the United States from Cuba when she settled next to the sacred land of the Narragansetts, the indigenous people of Southern Rhode Island. Her poetic sculptures evoke the complex ecology of her homes in Charleston, Rhode Island and Nova Scotia.

Event co-chairs Frank Garofolo & Ellie Voorhes have organized an extraordinary evening of performances, cuisine, and dancing. All proceeds from the evening will support the Museums’ efforts to provide space to learn, educate and grow.

Two-hour evening cruise for 6 (on a mutually agreed upon date in the 2023 boating season) aboard the 45-foot Hinckley motor yacht, Mon Amour.  The Hinckley Company, started in 1928 in Southwest Harbor, ME is among the most distinguished yacht designers to this day.  Hosted by David and Ellie Voorhes, relax for a leisurely cruise around Newport Harbor, Mackerel Cove on Jamestown, and the Jamestown waterfront.  Libations and hor d’oeuvres provided.

About Frank:
After opening a popular restaurant near Lincoln Center in Manhattan, Frank Garofolo attended culinary school and joined the faculty of The New School teaching in their culinary program. He then joined the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners (ICIF) in Italy to become Program Director for American culinary school graduates who enrolled in a Master’s Program in Italian cooking. Returning to New York, he joined the faculty of the Institute of Culinary Education and before long became Dean of Students at the school. Frank then went on to be the Director of the Connecticut Culinary Institute.
