Museum Receptionist

The Museum Receptionists are responsible for providing visitors with a high level of seamless service and a positive Museum experience. As a key ambassador, the Receptionist is responsible for ensuring that all guests have a positive and meaningful experience at the Museum, and that they are aware of the many ways they can stay involved.
This is a part-time role, currently filling two to three 5.5-hour shifts (10:45 AM- 4:15 PM) throughout the week and weekend (11-16.5 hrs)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain dependable shifts at the Museum front desks, including special events in evenings, and weekends as needed
  • Maintain familiarity with emergency procedures
  • Meet and maintain the Museum’s reception standards, which include:
  • Warmly and promptly welcome, orient, and direct all visitors, tour groups, vendors and members of the general public
  • Maintain a well-informed knowledge of the Museum’s calendar, exhibitions, history, special events and programs, classes, and membership opportunities
  • Support Museum security with respect to visitors, conduct routine gallery checks
  • Turn on and off lights and equipment for galleries, ensuring the buildings are secured; locks, unlocks, and alarms buildings during the weekends
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls, mail, e-mail, and deliveries
  • Process payments and admission
  • Assist with inventory and sales at the museum shop
  • Other administrative assistance as needed, including basic social media, data entry, e-mail correspondence.

BACKGROUND & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience involving interaction with the public, preferably in a hospitality/tourism/attraction setting
  • Interest in fine art and museums

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong customer service, interpersonal and public relations skills; ability to communicate effectively with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds, children and families. Knowledge of arts and cultural audiences preferred.
  • Clear and effective verbal/written communication skills, poise under pressure
  • Dependability, flexibility, adaptability
  • Basic computer and office skills (processing transactions, checking email and phones)
  • Ability to represent the museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism, adhere to museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner

 

COMPENSATION:
This is a part-time hourly position starting at $16/hr.
