The Newport Art Museum’s historic, inviting and art-filled Griswold House, Cushing/Morris Galleries and Arts Campus offer an unforgettable setting for your gathering. Whether you’re looking for a conveniently located and inspirational space for your corporate meeting, special reception, or Wedding Day, the Museum’s Rental Events Team will be happy to reserve the Museum for you and your guests.

Weddings

Ceremonies

The Griswold House and Newport Art Museum grounds are an ideal place to tie the knot. Able to accommodate parties large and small, there are a variety of options where the ceremony can take place within the romantic setting of the Newport Art Museum.

Wedding Ceremony (2 hours) / $1500
Photo Shoot (90 minutes) / $500

Rental Includes:

  • One 2-hour event for the ceremony beginning at or after 5:15 pm
  • One 1-hour rehearsal day before ceremony (4 – 5 pm)
  • Access to the Griswold House galleries, restrooms and Museum Grounds
  • 30-minute setup before event/30-minute breakdown following event
  • Tenant User’s Liability Insurance Policy (TULIP)
  • Standard conference room chairs for guests with need
  • Staffing & Security throughout duration of event

Griswold House Grand Staircase

The Griswold House Grand Staircase is ideal for standing ceremonies with guest counts up to 125. With viewing points and limited seating for guests on the first and second floor, the landing allows the wedding party to be ‘center stage’ with the beautiful background of Richard Morris Hunt’s 1864 architecture framing the ceremony. With the bridal procession walking up or down the main staircase, guests will be treated to a beautiful view of the ceremony as the bride makes her grand entrance.

Depending on the size of the wedding party, there are options for musicians to be on the landing or on our third floor balcony; the third floor balcony is available to the photographer(s).

Courtyard

Our Museum Grounds offer a one-of-a-kind backdrop for Wedding Ceremonies of all sizes. Offering a variety of setups based on guest size, our Star Magnolia Tree and row of hydrangeas provide a classic romantic setting while the striking architecture of the Griswold House offers a uniquely Newport locale.

The most common setup utilizes the veranda for the wedding party, with guests seated and/or standing on the grass facing the Courtyard Entrance to the Griswold House.  Chairs for a seated ceremony will need to be contracted through a preferred vendor.

Larger ceremonies are able to take place on our grounds with a variety of setup possibilities, including a tent. Please contact Leslie Streuli at lstreuli@newportartmuseum.org to plan a ceremony style that fits best for your special day.

Griswold House Ilgenfritz Gallery

A Wedding Ceremony in the Ilgenfritz Gallery is the perfect location for a more traditional seated ceremony. Fitting up to 125 guests, the Ilgenfritz Gallery is the Museum’s largest and features work by contemporary artists working in a variety of mediums. Depending on the guest count, various setups can be arranged to allow the bride the grand entrance everyone anticipates.

*A Note About Artwork on View: Due to the changing exhibitions at the Newport Art Museum, the content of specific work may not be known until installation is complete. In view of our agreement with artists, work may not be covered, removed, or altered in any way for a private event.

Rehearsal Dinners

The Newport Art Museum is a one-of-a-kind venue for both traditional sit-down dinners, and passed hors d’oeuvres cocktail rehearsals. The Griswold House features a large first floor gallery that can accommodate seated service for up to 90 guests. Our smaller, historic rooms can hold a more intimate seated dinners. Rehearsal Dinners featuring passed hors d’oeuvres, food stations, and cocktails can be spread throughout the first floor galleries in a variety of  setups with guests encouraged to browse our collection of art on the second floor.

Guest counts and Rates vary depending upon which and how many museum spaces are in use.

Receptions

The Newport Art Museum’s Griswold House and Grounds is a beautiful location to commemorate your special day.

Our historic Griswold House features a large contemporary gallery able to accommodate seated service for up to 100 guests. Larger guest counts are invited to expand their party onto our beautiful grounds, requiring the rental of a tent to hold the main event. Tented rentals do include access to the Griswold House throughout the duration of the event, and many clients choose to open their reception with a cocktail hour allowing guests to explore the Museum’s galleries.

Tents, tables and chairs are not provided by the Newport Art Museum for Rehearsal Dinners or Wedding Receptions, and will need to be contracted via third-party vendors. Tented events will be charged an additional $500 Property Restoration fee to maintain the historic grounds of the Griswold House. The Cushing Building is available to rent for the duration of your event for an additional fee. Food and drink are prohibited in the Cushing Building.

Photography Sessions

Wedding Photographs

The Newport Art Museum offers a variety of locations for a memorable and unique photography session for the entire Wedding Party. Able to accommodate up to 30 guests, the Griswold House’s Grand Staircase is a popular spot with many vantage points, as well as two period rooms located on the first floor. Our additional galleries with changing artwork can be utilized for more ‘contemporary’ shots, and our grounds with historic trees are a romantic setting during the blooming season.

One 90-minute photography session: $500 ($100 TULIP insurance included)

A National Historic Landmark showcasing 19th century design and craftsmanship, the John N.A. Griswold House is the perfect setting for cocktail parties, lively soirees, and receptions both large and small. The house consists of two floors connected by a stunning staircase featuring artworks from the Museum’s collection and a gracious landing. The first floor features two beautiful rooms with original floors, moldings and fireplaces, and a large gallery with space for lectures as well as seated dinners. Our second floor galleries are open for viewing and can be transformed into a private room for the bride.

Griswold House:
Cocktail Reception for up to 200 / $5,000 (Monday – Wednesday & Sunday)

Griswold House Contemporary Gallery:
Cocktail Reception for up to 100 / $3,000 (Monday – Wednesday & Sunday)

Drury Gallery & Library – includes use of outdoor porch:

The Museum’s front lawn and courtyard facing Newport’s historic Bellevue Avenue with views of Touro Park, the Redwood Library & Athenaeum, and magnificent sunsets is the perfect venue for a tented event or outdoor cocktail party. The Museum’s Grounds can accommodate a variety of tent sizes to fit larger guest counts (up to 400) for wedding receptions. When renting the Museum Grounds, guests will have access to the Griswold House galleries, including the lower level restrooms.

Griswold House Lawn (Tented)

up to 400 guests, Monday – Wednesday & Sunday / $2,500 and Thursday – Saturday & Holidays / $6,500

Events can begin when the Museum closes to the public at 5pm and must conclude no later than 11pm. Vendors can begin setting up in the Griswold House kitchen beginning at 10am, set up in museum can begin at 3:30pm. The museum can be closed at 4pm for an additional charge of $200. The Museum’s two parking lots (35 spots) are included in pricing with an additional lot adjacent to the Museum available for $200.
The use of the Museum’s AV system, available in the Griswold House Contemporary Gallery is available for and additional expense of $100.

Other Rentals

Private Art Viewing

The Cushing Memorial and Morris Galleries house our permanent collection of Howard Gardiner Cushing’s artwork, in addition to changing special exhibitions. The Cushing / Morris Galleries are available for private viewing at an additional fee; food and drink are prohibited in the Cushing / Morris Galleries building.

Studio Rentals

From time to time we open up our studio space in The Newport Art Museum School to non-enrolled students. Contact Sierra Conniff in our Education Department for more information. 401-848-8200.
