Newport Music Festival Concert

Bach’s Long Shadow: Francisco Fullana on violin

July 8, 2019 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Griswold House

The Museum is pleased to host several extraordinary Newport Music Festival concerts again this year. Join us for a memorable concert in the galleries, or one of our Free Outdoor Family-Friendly Concerts on the Museum’s lawn.

About this Concert:

Bach’s Long Shadow takes audiences on a journey through the last three centuries via landmark solo violin repertoire performed on period-specific instruments and played by Francisco Fullana. Winner of the 2018 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Fullana has received international praise as a “rising star” (BBC Music Magazine), an “amazing talent” (maestro Gustavo Dudamel) and “a paragon of delicacy” (San Francisco’s Classical Voice). His playing has been described as “explosive” (Gramophone) and “electric and virtuosic” (The Strad).

Bach’s two cornerstone Partitas for solo violin and his legendary Chaconne will be offered in the exact same manner as they were for the Prussian King: on a Baroque violin with gut strings in their original tuning.

Paganini and Kreisler, among other solo virtuoso works, will be performed on the ‘ex-Kreisler’ 1735 Guarneri violin: the very same instrument that Kreisler himself used to compose and perform all around the world.

Tickets $50
