Postponed: Film Screening: Escher: Journey Into Infinity

April 30, 2020 5:30 pm

M.C. Escher’s artwork has inspired and astounded audiences around the world, and in ways he could never have imagined. One of the most influential artists of the 20th century, his work appeals to the “trained” and “untrained” eye alike, though he considered himself a mathematician, not an artist. Journey Into Infinity is an intimate portrait based on over 1000 letters, diaries and lectures Escher wrote during his lifetime, narrated by Stephen Fry, along with interviews with two of Escher’s sons (George, aged 92 and Jan, aged 80). Join us for a fascinating journey into the life, fears, struggles and successes of an artist whose work is now infinitely recognizable.

This film is being shown in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition “paperwork: Works on Paper from the Permanent Collection.”
