DESIGNxRI and the Newport Art Museum are thrilled to welcome “tools for the imagination” designer Cas Holman for a hands-on community playdate and designer presentation kicking off DESIGN WEEK RI 2019. We’ll collaborate on a giant Rigamajig contraption on the Museum’s Bellevue Avenue lawn constructed out of Holman’s award winning Rigamajig toy/tool parts, and then learn about Cas Holman’s career, projects, and design philosophy.

Cas Holman is a Providence and Brooklyn based designer and educator. Her award-winning designs explore the intersection of play, learning and creativity and are used in K-12 classrooms, playgrounds, children’s museums, public parks, and backyards around the world. Through her company Heroes Will Rise, Cas designs and manufactures tools for imagination that use manipulatable parts and pieces inspiring constructive play, imaginative forms, and cooperative interactions between people. An Associate Professor of Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she prototypes her playthings on five acres known as Camp Fun in Hope, RI.
