Founded in 1912, the Newport Art Museum is one of the oldest continuously operating and most highly regarded art museums and schools of its kind in the country.
The Newport Art Museum’s collection consists of approximately 3,000 works of art in a range of media including works on paper (prints, drawings, watercolors, and photographs), paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, installation works, and textiles and is expanding to include new media. Concentrated on American art and contemporary art, the Museum’s collection includes works of art from the 18th century to present.

The Newport Art Museum and Newport County Prevention Coalition invite young Newport County residents aged 5-17 to create original artwork inspired by the connection between art making and positive mental health. The exhibition theme “I Am A Well Being” speaks to the need for self care and the role the arts can play in supporting young people’s healthy minds. This captivating show seeks to celebrate the creativity, resilience and wellness strategies of our talented young people. Works will be exhibited at the Newport Art Museum School from October 28 – November 30, 2023 during Museum School Hours:
We invite all Newport County children to share their unique perspective through original pieces of art. This thought-provoking exhibition was created to educate, enlighten and provide a greater understanding of these challenging and complex issues. We believe it’s important to hear the experiences and perspectives of our youth, as they navigate the obstacles that confront them.
Young people are invited to participate by expressing visually what brings them joy and makes them feel whole, calm, and centered.
Schools across Newport County are invited to participate with their students, and local public libraries are invited to have materials available for their youth and teen visitors. Materials will also be available for pick up at the Newport Art Museum.
SIGN UP: Sign up by September 30 by emailing Newport County Prevention Coalition at arts@riprevention.org with your or your organization’s name, contact information and how many kits you need. GET MATERIALS: Free Materials and project directions will be delivered to your organization, or are available for pick up at the Newport Art Museum by September 30. SUBMIT ARTWORKS: Finished artworks will be picked up from participating schools and libraries, or can be dropped off at the Newport Art Museum, by October 13 DEADLINES: The deadline to submit artwork is October 13.

EXHIBITION DATES: The exhibition will be on view from October 28 – November 30, 2023. PICK UP ARTWORK: Artworks will be available for pick up after November 30.

Strategic Prevention Partnerships promotes community health and well-being through action, education, support and collaboration. To accomplish this mission, we work independently and with partners to promote positive behavioral health for people of all ages by providing resources to meet substance use prevention and mental health needs, identify behavioral health issues and needs within our community and develop an infrastructure to meet identified needs by adapting evidence-based policies, practices, and programs to serve our local community.
