Winter Opening Reception
Celebrating the Exhibitions of Donna Bassin and The Aquidneck Land Trust
January 29, 2025 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm Newport Art Museum
We’re thrilled to open two powerful exhibitions this January that celebrate the intersection of art, nature, and community!
“Donna Bassin: Portraits of the Precarious Earth” explores the fragility of our environment through evocative photo-based landscapes. Responding to the environmental crisis, Bassin’s work captures Earth’s vulnerability and the losses of land, animals, and plant life. She has also thoughtfully curated 19th-century landscapes from the Museum’s permanent collection, including works by George Inness and William Trost Richards, reflecting on early landscape painters as environmental advocates.
“Voices of the Future: The Aquidneck Land Trust Student Art & Writing Competition” showcases the creativity of Aquidneck Island students. This collaboration between The Aquidneck Land Trust, NAM, and local educators features student artwork, essays, and poems inspired by the prompt: What is your favorite Aquidneck Island vista? This vibrant collection highlights the natural beauty of our island and the fresh perspectives of the next generation.
