May 21, 2026 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Learn printmaking techniques that help K–12 educators support arts standards through creative, hands‑on making.
RI 250: Professional Development for Social Studies and Arts K-12 School Educators
Rhode Island State Council on the Arts will host two concurrent professional development sessions for K-12 teachers related to the 250th anniversary of Rhode Island. Explore the use of poetry to achieve social studies standards at Newport Historical Society, or the techniques of printmaking to achieve arts standards at the Newport Art Museum School.
Lunch will be provided. A stipend will also be provided to the teacher’s school to cover the cost of a substitute teacher. Teachers will receive a professional learning credit for attending.
Art and Printmaking
Join printmakers Andre Lee Bassuet and Lois Harada for a hands-on day of learning through making. Inspired by the original Rhode Island state charter printed broadside, participants will learn strategies to incorporate print into their lesson plans. The workshop will also feature ‘Print as Play’ as inspired by the currentMuseum’s exhibition Play / Pretend.
This event is offered in collaboration with the Newport Historical Society, the Newport Art Museum, and the RI 250 Commission.
