Curl up with this month's book selection and then join in the conversation.

August 19, 2021 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm At the Museum and virtually on Zoom.

Strapless: John Singer Sargent and the Fall of Madame X, by Deborah Davis

Welcome to Museum Reads, the Newport Art Museum’s Art-Themed book group for adults. It’s the same beloved Read/Eat/Chat book group format, with a fresh name. Join us!

Meet Creole Virginie Gautreau, the “it girl” of Paris and the subject of John Singer Sargent’s famous painting, Madame X. Drawing on documents from private collections and other previously unexamined materials, and featuring a cast of characters including Oscar Wilde and Richard Wagner, Strapless is a tale of art and celebrity, obsession and betrayal.

Book group this month will meet at the Museum and virtually on Zoom.

We are delighted that author Deborah Davis will join us in conversation virtually!
