Announcing Extended Hours and Free Admission for Youth under 18

The Newport Art Museum is adjusting admission fees and extending its hours effective January 1, 2018 in an effort to encourage visitors of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly and build a lifetime of museum enjoyment. All youth and children under age 18 are now invited to visit the Museum free of admission costs. A modest increase in adult daily admission charges enables this change and brings the Museum on par with pricing regionally. This increase in cost for adult admission is the first in several year’s time. Museum members will continue to enjoy free admission as a benefit of their membership, and the Museum will offer discounted admission pricing for seniors, college students and active duty military. As one of only two members of Museums for All, a signature access program of the Association of Children’s Museums (ACM) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), in the state, visitors with a valid Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and a valid form of photo ID will enjoy free admission for up to four individuals per card, during regular Museum hours. The Museum will continue to offer guided tours for all, held each Tuesday morning at 10:30am, free with admission.

Also effective January 1, the Museum will stay open an additional hour each day in an effort to be more accessible to our community. New Museum hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 5pm, Sunday 12 – 5pm, and Monday closed. During the months of April through December, the Museum will remain open until 7pm each Thursday.

“Extended museum hours and free admission for students 18 years and younger will enable greater access to all our museum has to offer,” said Norah Diedrich, Executive Director of the Newport Art Museum. “There is a certain magic that happens in our galleries when people connect with the works of art – and each other. The more the merrier.”

The Newport Art Museum looks forward to welcoming visitors and community members alike to enjoy thought-provoking exhibitions, Museum collections, arts education, programming and events, and its historic buildings.
