Artist-in-Residence Talk: Emma Welty
April 25, 2023 6:00 pm - 6:45 pm Griswold House
Join us for artist talk with our April Artist-in-Residence Emma Welty, whose work utilizes ancestral traditions of Armenian carpet and needlelace to explore economies of labor, notions of “heirloom” and cultural transmissions within a digital diaspora. She will discuss the work currently on view in Social Fabric: Textiles & Contemporary Issues in the context of her larger bodies of work, as well as what has been keeping her busy in the AiR studio.
Free, RSVP recommended.
Emma Welty is an artist, researcher and writer with a textile centered studio practice. Welty completed a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Fibers and Art History and an MFA/MA in Visual Art and Art History at Purchase College. Welty was recently in residence at the Museum of Arts and Design and the Woodbury Public Library, and has shown at Studio Hill Gallery in Woodbury, CT and Piano Craft Gallery in Boston, Joseph Gross Gallery at the University of Arizona.
