Origami “Pockets” for Nature Walks
Visit June Artist-in-Residence Heather McMordie and learn how to make a personal folded-paper organic specimen pocket to keep the flowers, grasses and seeds you collect on nature walks safe.
Educator-led Guided Looking
Explore the Ana Flores: Shaman Ladders and Other Stories exhibition in more detail through family friendly guided looking activities.

Native Plants & Corn Husk Dolls
Learn about our native plants and create your own traditional corn husk doll with guidance from Indigenous educators from the Tomaquag Museum, in connection with the Ana Flores: Shaman Ladders and Other Stories exhibition.

Join Silvermoon LaRose (Narragansett/Niantic) of the Tomaquag Museum for an educational performance that weaves traditional ecological knowledge of Indigenous peoples with the art of storytelling.

Meet our Artists and Collaborators
June Artist-in-Residence Heather McMordie
An artist, educator, and curator based in Providence, RI, Heather’s work explores the complexities of soil science and environmental restoration through prints, puzzles, artist books, and interactive installations.
Silvermoon Mars LaRose (Narragansett/Niantic) is the Assistant Director of the Tomaquag Museum. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Silvermoon has worked in tribal communities for nearly 30 years serving in the areas of health and human services, education, and humanities to foster Indigenous empowerment through education, community building, and the sharing of cultural knowledge and traditional arts.
Established in 1958 the Tomaquag Museum is Rhode Island’s only Indigenous led museum dedicated to sharing the traditions, stories, and lifeways of the Indigenous peoples of Southern New England.
Bhen Alan is a performance artist whose work speaks to how, in Filipino culture, clothing, textile, and costumery is a main form of identification of certain ethnic groups, social status, and dance traditions and as signifiers of identity. Through his performances, Alan attempts to protect their own and their ancestors stories, histories, bodies, and rights.
Dragonfly Marie is a folk/Americana duo consisting of Mary Ann Rossoni (vocals, guitar) and Valerie Larkin (bass, guitar, mandolin, vocals). They perform a vast repertoire of original songs from Mary Ann’s years as a recording and touring artist, as well as interpretations of songs by diverse songwriters such as John Prine, Lucinda Williams, Leonard Cohen, and the Beatles.
