Call for Submissions for Newport Art Museum’s Artist Residency, AiR/Newport

Deadline: December 20, 2021 for April and October 2022 Residencies

(Newport, RI – September 20, 2021) – The Newport Art Museum is pleased to announce a call for submissions to mid-career and established U.S. artists for two month-long artist residencies known as AiR/Newport. AiR/Newport is designed to encourage the creative, intellectual and personal growth of emerging and established visual artists and designers by giving them the time, space and solitude needed to create, apart from the daily demands of production and deadline. Artists will reside in a private studio apartment located on the Museum’s campus and will have access to a dedicated, clean studio space within the Museum’s school building. There is a $40 application fee, and submissions are only accepted through Slideroom. The residencies are available for April 2022 and October 2022, and the deadline to apply is December 20, 2021. More information on eligibility, honorariums and stipends, and a link to apply can be found at

From its founding in 1912, the Newport Art Museum has valued art and artists as essential components of a vibrant, healthy and informed community and therefore we consider a community engagement activity, to be determined by the resident artists, a priority. We are committed to cultivating a culture of inclusion and believe the collective sum of our individual differences, life experiences, knowledge, identities, and histories help ensure that our Museum is, and will continue to be, a welcoming place for all.

About the Newport Art Museum
The Newport Art Museum was founded in 1912 on the belief that arts and culture have the power to bring diverse groups of individuals together, which ultimately promotes civic engagement and strengthens the social fabric of our communities. This core belief continues to guide the Museum’s direction today. Museum offerings range from exhibitions and lectures to art classes in its Museum School and art trips to other cultural institutions. Located on 3-acres along beautiful Bellevue Avenue in Newport, RI, the Museum’s galleries are housed in two historically significant buildings and feature notable special exhibitions as well as selections from its growing permanent collection.
Our Museum’s mission is to share a diversity of art and experiences that spark reflection, inspiration, discovery, and connection within our Newport community and beyond.
The Museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, Thursdays (April – December) until 7 pm, and Sunday from noon to 5 pm. Museum membership levels and benefits, art school classes and registration, exhibition schedules, public programming, and more can be found at Phone: (401) 848-8200.
