Founded in 1912, the Newport Art Museum is one of the oldest continuously operating and most highly regarded art museums and schools of its kind in the country.
The Newport Art Museum’s collection consists of approximately 3,000 works of art in a range of media including works on paper (prints, drawings, watercolors, and photographs), paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, installation works, and textiles and is expanding to include new media. Concentrated on American art and contemporary art, the Museum’s collection includes works of art from the 18th century to present.

Artist-in-Residence, Andrea Spiridonakos has a practice driven by process, experimentation, and detail, through various mediums such as fiber art, decorative art, and installation. She will lead attendees through a fiber-arts based demonstration and project.
Spiridonakos holds a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. She began her career as a professional ballerina who danced leading roles on stages across the US & Europe to literary acclaim. Now, as the creative force behind her studio, Spiridonakou, her debut fashion collection sold at NYC’s legendary Bergdorf Goodman. Spiridonakos has exhibited at Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris) in collaboration with the Métiers d’Arts, Chanel, the Bergdorf Goodman windows (NYC), FAU Ritter Gallery (Boca Raton), Big Art Now Gallery (West Palm Beach) and solo exhibitions at the Coral Gables Museum and the Miami Design District.

Spiridonakos tiene un título en diseño de moda obtenido en el Fashion Institute of Technology en Nueva York. Jesús de la Torre was born in Monterrey, Mexico and grew up in San Antonio, Texas. He received his Master’s degree in Bicultural Studies from the University of Texas in 2007 and moved to Jamestown, RI in 2018. He has been an elementary school educator for 13 years and is the co-founder of Colectivo Cultural, an organization that preserves and celebrates Mexican culture. De la Torre has hosted numerous educational community workshops on the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead in RI, and participates annually in the Muertos Fest in San Antonio, Texas.
Jesús de la Torre nació en Monterrey, México pero pasó su niñez en San Antonio, Texas. Recibió su Masters en Estudios Biculturales de la Universidad de Texas en 2007. Conexión Latina Newport (CLN) was established to support the needs of the Hispanic/Latino community by creating connections and partnerships with resources and advocacy, and creating pathways to increase access and representation throughout the city of Newport, Rhode Island. We hope that by creating access, and building upon the strengths of the community, we will build the confidence, independence and integration of all Hispanics/Latinos in Newport.
