Artivism: Art + Activism

May Stevens (1924-2019) was an artist, activist, teacher, and writer who used her voice to fight for systemic and societal change, including desegregation and the end of Jim Crow laws, equal rights for women, and an end to the war in Vietnam. She felt that art was a natural vehicle to express political passion, stimulate discussion, assist in the evolution of ideas, and effect change.
