In this 5 week oil painting course, we explore still life subjects through the eye of a different master each week. We look for the possibilities of form, composition and color with a different themed still life each week as we study one master in particular while enjoying the wonderful medium of oil paint. All are welcome; you need not have taken Intro to Oils to sign up for this class.

Oil Colors (Utrecht, Gamblin or Winton) 40 ml tubes
Titanium White
Hansa Yellow Light OR Cadmium Yellow Light
Cadmium Red medium
Quinacridone Magenta or Q. Rose
Ultramarine blue
Cobalt blue
Yellow Ochre
Viridian (genuine, not “hue”)
Burnt Sienna
#8, #10, #12, Flat or Filbert oil brushes
#8 round oil brush is optional.
Palette knife: broad steel knife, flat or offset. No pointed trowel shape, no plastic. The broad knife is roughly the shape and size of your index finger.
Canvases(5): 9×12, 11X14, or 14×18″.
Palette, wood or white laminated wood panel.
Painting Medium: Gamblin Galkyd or Winsor Newton Liquin 250ml.
Flat Cardboard Box for wet painting to travel home.
Vegetable oil (Walnut, Safflower fine but any will do)
Brush washing canister, with perforated metal or coil insert
Rags or paper towels
Location and Parking:
Newport Art Museum School classes are held in the Coleman Center, located at 26 Liberty Street.
Please park in our museum parking lots.
