Hello my name is Agustín Patiño. I am originally from Ecuador.
I have lived in Providence for many years and have my art studio in Rhode Island.
In my painting Times Square that is on exhibit at the Newport Biennial, I show the personal universe of my own searches and an activism of the ecological and renewable resources that are affecting our blue planet as a result of global warming and the crises that occur daily with alarming consequences.
In this painting Times Square or better said, translating it would be “the square of time,” which sounds to me more like a poetic metaphor of time and place and that has a very current symbolic load of global warming and our contemporaneity. And because the Big Apple is commonly referred to literally as the capital of the world, the echo of my message is a little more global.
Times Square IS a substantial part of a series of paintings that I have called “Metropolis and Shorelines.” This series is made up of a large number of paintings made of many mega cities and metropolises and now also with the effects of advanced technology hydroponics are being built.
Conjecturally and as part of a central concept, I have another series called “Amazonas” which undoubtedly forms an essential part of Metropolis and Shorelines. “Metropolis and Orillas” series that is articulated like a great axis that moves our planet Earth.
