Founded in 1912, the Newport Art Museum is one of the oldest continuously operating and most highly regarded art museums and schools of its kind in the country.
The Newport Art Museum’s collection consists of approximately 3,000 works of art in a range of media including works on paper (prints, drawings, watercolors, and photographs), paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, installation works, and textiles and is expanding to include new media. Concentrated on American art and contemporary art, the Museum’s collection includes works of art from the 18th century to present.

Art Builds Connection, and Connection Builds Community.
The Hope Tree Art Exhibition is an initiative of the Newport Health Equity Zone’s Arts & Culture Working Group and the Newport Art Museum. This outdoor public art exhibition, now in its third year, is designed to celebrate the strength, diversity, hopes and voices of individuals, families, community organizations connected to the North End neighborhood. Participants were invited to share their hopes for the community, and were provided with the materials to decorate a canvas around an inspirational work of their choice.
Exhibition Artists: Dianne Ford and family (HOPE), Newport Out (PRIDE), Newport Public Art (POWER), Newport Health Equity Zone (JUSTICE), Breeyanna King and family (LOVE), College Unbound (HUMANITY), Cara Willi and family (SOLIDARITY), the Newport County Arts & Cultural Alliance (ARTS), Looking Upwards (JOY), Creative Communities Collaborative (VOICE), Jy-Tique Harris (LEGACY), and the James L. Maher Center (EQUALITY). Lettering on all canvases was painted by muralist Jy-Tique Harris.

Jy-Tique Harris (@Omega_Artt) is a local spray paint artist and muralist, and an active member of Newport Public Art. His vibrant mural work can be seen in various locations around Newport including an epic seascape on the corner of River Lane and Marlborough Street in downtown Newport.
The Newport Health Equity Zone is a city-wide coalition mobilizing residents and resources of the Broadway and North End neighborhoods to make Newport a place where everyone can thrive. The Arts and Culture working group strives to increase the HEZ community’s engagement and participation with the arts and help facilitate creative and professional opportunities for residents.
