Carving In Soapstone

May 6, 2024 - May 20, 2024

3 sessions

Mondays 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Taught by Laura Travis

Soapstone is among the easiest of stones to carve and offers the satisfying challenge of working in the round. Beginners get grounding in reductive sculpture techniques, yet the beauty of the stone and the finishes that can be achieved appeal to more advanced students as well. Expect to see wonderful, flowing forms emerge while building skills with
saws, files, rasps and chisels. Students should come prepared with sketches and printed photographs of a compact animal form they would like to carve, preferred face masks for dust, and personal goggles. Adults only.

Please note this workshop comes with a $20 materials fee.
