In a groundbreaking move in 1946, Rothschild initiated the tradition of commissioning renowned painters and sculptors to design each year’s Chateau Mouton Rothschild label, a practice that set the estate apart. This innovation not only elevated the aesthetic appeal of the wine but also significantly enhanced its value. The distinctiveness and popularity of these label designs have led to auction prices for older and more collectible years soaring far beyond those of other first growths, which maintain consistent labels from year to year.
