Located approximately thirty miles from the city of Bordeaux lies the prestigious wine estate of Baron Philippe de Rothschild, a poet, visionary, and revolutionary figure in the wine industry. Baron de Rothschild pioneered the practice of bottling wine at the chateau, departing from the traditional method of delivery and sale in wooden barrels.
In a groundbreaking move in 1946, Rothschild initiated the tradition of commissioning renowned painters and sculptors to design each year’s Chateau Mouton Rothschild label, a practice that set the estate apart. This innovation not only elevated the aesthetic appeal of the wine but also significantly enhanced its value. The distinctiveness and popularity of these label designs have led to auction prices for older and more collectible years soaring far beyond those of other first growths, which maintain consistent labels from year to year.
For the discerning connoisseur, we offer a set of six of these iconic labels, accompanied by a framed Chateau Mouton Rothschild Artist Labels Poster.
The set includes labels from notable artists:
1988 Keith Haring
1986 Bernard Séjourné (100 Point, Also know as one of the best wines from one of the best french vintages ever.)
1982 John Huston (100 Point) Known as one of the best wines from one of the best vintages ever in France.
1975 Andy Warhol
1973 Pablo Picasso
2000 The Ausberg Ram
This exquisite collection not only captures the essence of Chateau Mouton Rothschild’s rich heritage but also celebrates the artistic mastery of some of the world’s most acclaimed artists. It is a truly remarkable addition for any wine (and art) collector.
