Building Your Portfolio (Register by November 4)

This class is for youth ages 16-19.
A portfolio is a standard requirement for any college or university art application. Most schools require 12-20 pieces of your best and most recent artwork.This course will give students the opportunity to review college application requirements, receive guidance on how to select the right art program, prepare admission portfolio pieces, and learn about the variety of career options in the visual arts. The first week involves an assessment of your portfolio to determine the direction for future work in this class. In the following weeks, students will individually define their assignments based on the specific demands of their portfolio. Students will both revise and improve existing artwork and produce new formal artwork with individual coaching from the instructor geared towards the requirements and expectations of today’s collegiate art programs.

Supplies to bring:
Sketchbook (no larger than 9×12), Faber-Castell Graphite Pencil Tin (2H, HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B) , and any existing Portfolio pieces.
About the Instructor
Lauren received her BFA in Studio Art, a BIA in Interior Architecture and an MAT in Art & Design Education from Rhode Island School of Design. She has taught art to students ranging from Kindergarten to 12th grade and worked with community-based art programs for the past 10 years. Lauren is currently teaching high school students in Rhode Island and manages her own graphic design business. In her personal art practice, she enjoys working with clay and mixed media.
Location and Parking
This course will be held in our digital lab in the Griswold House, located at 76 Bellevue Avenue. Please meet in the lobby on the first day of class. Please park in our museum parking lots.
