Slip Ornamentation Workshop (Register by April 27)
May 4, 2020 - June 1, 2020
Mondays 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Slip can be used in so many ways to create texture and line on pots. It can be applied using a squeeze bottle fitted with a fine nozzle, it can be painted on with a soft bristle brush, spread with a palette knife and used in conjunction with stencils. These surfaces can be further enhanced after a piece is bisqued with washes, underglaze and various glaze choices. In this class students will be using these various slip training techniques along with underglaze application to hand build a trio of landscape vases.
Supplies to bring
sketch book, pencil, permanent fine point marker, ruler, scissors, x-acto knife, cone 6 white bodied clay purchased from studio, smooth square of old sheet or fine canvas (2’x2′ aprox), red rubber rib, 1” soft bristled brush
About the instructor
Christine Herron has designed original, hand made products for her company Red Chair Studio for over twenty six years. She studied illustration at Rhode Island School of Design where she honed her eye for detail and developed her love of color and form.
In all of her creative endeavors, it is the uncommon use of color and love of the natural world that remains central to Christine’s work. Her work has taken many forms over the years. Hand painted garden products, fiber reactive dyed silk, beaded gemstone and leather jewelry, egg tempera, watercolor and oil painting and hand built clay vessels are all part of her creative output. New materials always present an exciting challenge for this creative spirit.
Currently she is busy creating various functional pots. Her hand built mugs, cups and dishes are like the rest of her work, colorful, quirky and reflecting her love of nature.
