Painting Exploration
September 24, 2022 - November 26, 2022
10 sessions
Saturday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Taught by
Kathy Hodge
The next step in your painting exploration, tools for finding your path
Kathy Hodge will work one-on-one with painters of all skill levels to build strong paintings by working towards a deeper understanding of what initially attracted you to your subject and what you would like to communicate. She will help you develop, or hone, your easel painting skills, and turn frustration into exploration. We will begin by preparing studies in black and white and/or color. This will make our path to the finished painting much clearer and help us work out our compositions, build our structure, and uncover the abstract qualities — resulting in a stronger painting. We will also visit the Museum and talk about what we feel makes the paintings on exhibition successful and what we can learn from them. Throughout the classes we will have supportive and constructive group critiques and discuss what we feel is working, or what we are struggling with, in our paintings, and share thoughts on materials and techniques. Kathy will share demos, tips and tools from over 40 years of studio practice to help you overcome technical and conceptual obstacles and use her knowledge of art history to suggest artists you may find a kinship with. Demos will be done in oil, but you may work in oil or acrylic.
