Abstract Painting (Register by November 4)

In this course for beginning and experienced painters, we will explore the options of working with pure shape, color, and composition. A series of freeing exercises and finished projects will reveal that the possibilities are endless. A unique opportunity to loosen up your imagination and discover your creative voice!

Supplies to bring
Pad of white drawing paper, 18” x 24”
4 stretched primed canvases,16” x 20”
Tubes of acrylic paint (Golden’s brand is best, but Liquitex Basics is fine for the budget-conscious) in Cadmium red medium, Cadmium yellow light, Ultramarine blue, Mars black, Titanium white
3⁄4” wide flat brush
1⁄2” wide round brush that comes to a point
Pad of disposable palette paper
Roll of masking tape
2 large plastic cups
Roll of paper towels
Catherine Carter has taught drawing and painting courses and workshops at colleges and art museums throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island for the past 20 years. She has a M.F.A. in painting from UMass Dartmouth, and currently works from her studio at Hatch Street Studios in New Bedford. Her large-scale abstract paintings are held in such collections as the Boston Public Library, the Four Seasons Hotel, and Meditech Information Technology. Her exhibits have been reviewed in the Providence Journal, the Boston Globe, and Art New England.
Location and Parking:
Our School is located at 26 Liberty Street. Museum School students and visitors may park in the museum lots in front and back of Griswold house, or on Liberty Street. Cars parked in the other lots risk being ticketed.
