Join us for an illustrated lecture on Manga (illustrated stories/comics) and Anime (animated films) in Japan. Styles, trends and perennial themes will be explored as well as the historical roots of these two genres. Figures are modeled in proportion to head sizes, much like the world of fashion illustration. Exaggerated gestures, hair styles and costumes set the scene for dramas both vivid and more subtle in both genres. The text style and placement in Manga has enormous impact on the overall aesthetic. Learn why the term ‘comics' is not transferrable to Manga and why so many Japanese of all ages and social strata enjoy them.
