Brian Larkin and Ilse Buchert Nesbitt Newport Art Museum
NEWPORT, RI: Painter Brian Larkin and master printmaker Ilse Buchert Nesbitt will lead Visiting Artist Workshops at the Newport Art Museum this summer and fall. The workshops are one of many different types of art courses offered at the Newport Art Museum. These intense, one to four day classes are taught by accomplished, visiting artists.
The White Line or "Provincetown Print" with Brian Larkin September 25 10 am - 3 pm Brian Larkin will teach "The White Line" or "Provincetown Print", a technique originated in 1915 by a group of Provincetown artists devoted to the re-invention and simplification of the Japanese woodblock print process. This print is made with a block of wood, a knife, a spoon and watercolor paints. It has been taught by artists for generations. The Woodcut Workshop with Ilse Buchert Nesbitt, master printmaker Saturdays from October 16 to October 30 9:15 am to 12:15 pm After a brief discussion of the history and technique of the woodcut, students will design and cut their own block and print it on the press.
